The League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta State on Friday, 5 June, 2026, paid a condolence visit to the Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Dr. Taliat Yunus Ayilara, to express their sympathy and solidarity over the recent kidnapping incident that has generated concern across Yorubaland.
The delegation was led by the Chief Imam of Sepeteri and included prominent Islamic scholars such as Imam Ajigini, Dr. Shuaib Ayinde, Dr Daood Abanikanda, Imam Abdul Rasheed and other members of the league.
During the visit, the delegation urged media practitioners and members of the public to refrain from associating criminal activities such as banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and other social vices with Islam. They emphasized that such acts are contrary to the teachings and principles of the religion.
The visitors further clarified that the League of Imams and Alfas was not established to rival the existing one. Rather, they explained that the body was formed to complement ongoing efforts, add value to Islamic propagation, and contribute positively to the development and progress of Islam in Yorubaland.
In his response, Dr. Taliat Yunus Ayilara expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and their show of concern. He thanked the members for their support and goodwill, while pledging his full support for the league. He encouraged them to remain steadfast in their mission and work harmoniously with existing body for the advancement of Islam and the welfare of the Muslim in Yorubaland.
