A video circulating on social media has sparked widespread reactions after members of a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) parish were seen engaging in energetic dance moves during a church gathering.
The 71-second clip, which has attracted thousands of views and comments online, shows worshippers dancing joyfully in what supporters describe as an expression of praise rooted in the church’s Aladura heritage. However, the performance has drawn criticism from some Christians who argue that the style of dancing resembles a nightclub atmosphere and is inappropriate for a place of worship.
Critics on various social media platforms described the display as a “devil dance,” claiming it undermines the sanctity of Christian worship and reflects a growing trend of entertainment overshadowing spirituality in some churches.
Others, however, defended the congregation, insisting that the dance was merely a cultural and religious expression of joy. They argued that worship styles differ across denominations and that there is no single pattern for expressing praise to God.
“The Bible encourages believers to praise God with dancing,” one commenter wrote, while another maintained that worship should be conducted in a manner that reflects reverence and holiness.
The controversy has reignited debates over the role of culture, music, and dance in Christian worship, particularly within African indigenous churches where vibrant praise sessions have long been part of religious practice.
As discussions continue online, church leaders are yet to issue an official statement regarding the viral video.
