What was meant to improve the comfort and welfare of patients at Umaisha General Hospital in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State has reportedly ended in a heartbreaking discovery.
Sa’ad Abdullahi, an APC member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing the Umaisha/Ugya Constituency, had donated 50 ceiling fans, 40 standing fans and 50 orthopaedic mattresses to the hospital several weeks ago.
However, when Abdullahi returned to the hospital on Saturday for a follow-up visit, he was reportedly met with a shocking situation: the donated items were said to have been sold.
The development has raised serious concerns over the management and accountability of materials donated to public health facilities, particularly items intended to provide comfort to patients and support healthcare delivery.
The emotional weight of the discovery is even greater considering that the donations were made to address basic needs in a hospital where patients rely on limited resources for treatment and care.
Questions are now being raised about who authorised the alleged sale, where the items were taken, and what happened to the proceeds.
