Crisis Looms As Religious Tension In Yorubaland Grows

Adeboje Lukman

The growing tension between Muslims and traditional worshippers in Yorubaland, particularly over the issue of Ìrù Ẹkùn, should be treated with utmost seriousness. If not carefully managed, the disagreement could deepen mistrust and potentially escalate into a wider religious crisis.

Yorubaland has a long history of religious diversity and coexistence. Differences in faith should not become a source of confrontation. All stakeholders, including religious leaders, traditional institutions, community leaders and government authorities, must act responsibly to prevent the situation from escalating.

There is an urgent need for dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to the rule of law. No religious or cultural interest should be pursued in a manner that threatens peace, security or the rights of others.

Prevention is better than crisis management. The time to promote understanding and peaceful coexistence is now.
