The 2030 political ambition of some APC leaders may have contributed significantly to the party’s defeat in the recent Osun State governorship election.
Under the existing zoning arrangement and political calculations in the state, after the completion of the Osun West tenure, which Governor Ademola Adeleke belongs to, attention is expected to shift to either Osun Central or Osun East.
However, there were concerns that if the APC had won the governorship election and produced a candidate from Osun West, the candidate could potentially spend another eight years in office. This would effectively give Osun West up to 12 consecutive years in power, thereby reducing the chances of political gladiators from Osun Central and Osun East in 2030 and beyond.
This political calculation, coupled with what appeared to be self-centred ambitions among some party leaders and influential stakeholders, may have weakened the APC’s chances at the polls.
