A massive mudslide triggered by flash flooding has struck the Gyirong border port between China and Nepal, causing widespread destruction and leaving people missing.
The disaster swept through parts of the border crossing, damaging roads and cutting communication and power supplies. Authorities in Nepal have reported 384 tourists and travellers missing, while several deaths have also been confirmed in the wider flood disaster.
Rescue teams have been deployed on both sides of the border as authorities continue search-and-rescue operations. Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered an all-out effort to locate missing people and provide emergency assistance.
The situation remains critical, with authorities warning of further flooding and casualties as rescue operations continue.
