The Nigerian Army has recorded another major success in its ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations in the North-West, as troops reportedly neutralised several terrorists and recovered rustled cattle during a military operation in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to reports and videos circulating online, troops of the Nigerian Army, under ongoing security operations aimed at restoring peace in the region, engaged armed terrorists and bandits in a fierce confrontation. The operation led to the elimination of several suspected terrorists, while a large number of rustled cattle were recovered from the criminals.
Military sources disclosed that the operation was part of intensified efforts by the Army High Command to dismantle terrorist hideouts, disrupt bandit activities and safeguard rural communities that have suffered repeated attacks, kidnappings and cattle rustling.
The recovered cattle were reportedly stolen from local farmers and herders by the bandits before the military intervention. The successful recovery is expected to bring relief to affected residents whose livelihoods depend heavily on livestock farming.
Security analysts have described the latest achievement as another indication of the renewed offensive being carried out by the Nigerian Armed Forces against criminal elements operating across Zamfara and neighbouring states. In recent months, troops have conducted a series of coordinated ground and air operations that resulted in the destruction of terrorist camps, recovery of weapons and rescue of kidnapped victims.
Residents of communities within the Gummi axis have commended the military for sustaining pressure on the terrorists and urged security agencies to maintain the momentum until lasting peace is restored in the area.
The Nigerian Army has repeatedly assured Nigerians of its commitment to eliminating terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality threatening national security, while calling on citizens to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing operations.
