Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has extended an olive branch to Yoruba Muslims amid growing concerns and reservations among some members of the Muslim community over the Iru Ekun security initiative.
Igboho made the statement on Sunday, 27th September, 2026 at a meeting organised by Alhaji Mutiullahi Oladejo, Onimaalu, the Asiwaju Adeen of Oyo State at his residence in Ibadan.
The meeting provided an opportunity for dialogue between Igboho and Muslim stakeholders at a time when the Iru Ekun security initiative has generated discussions across Yorubaland.
Some Muslims have expressed concerns about the initiative, with critics describing it as potentially hostile to Islam and calling on the government to disband the security outfit.
Addressing the gathering, Igboho sought to allay such concerns, stressing that Iru Ekun was not established against any religion and that Yoruba Muslims should not see the initiative as a threat to their faith or communities.
The development marks a significant attempt at dialogue between Igboho and representatives of the Muslim community, particularly against the background of earlier concerns surrounding Iru Ekun.
However, the meeting has also raised an important question: Will the latest overture change the perception of Iru Ekun among Yoruba Muslims who have Previously opposed or expressed reservations about the initiative?
The response of Muslim leaders, organisations and the wider Yoruba Muslim community to Igboho’s latest position is now being awaited
