The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed as false and mischievous reports circulating on social media claiming that a bus conveying passengers from Ado-Ekiti was kidnapped along the Aramoko-Ekiti road on May 31, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, intelligence and tactical operatives were immediately deployed to verify the claim, but investigations revealed that no such incident occurred anywhere in the state.
The Command alleged that the report was deliberately fabricated and spread by criminally minded individuals to create panic among residents and undermine the efforts of security agencies and the government.
“It has come to the notice of the Command that there is an intentional and coordinated plan by some individuals to start creating and spreading false alarms about bandit attacks, kidnappings and other security threats in the State,” the statement said.
The Police noted that Ekiti State has witnessed several fake security alerts in recent weeks and warned that anyone found creating or disseminating false information would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Residents were urged to disregard the kidnapping report, verify information before sharing, remain security conscious and promptly report emergencies to the Police.
The Command also called on members of the public with information about fake news peddlers to report them through its official channels.
