Residents of Jos South Local Government Area have been thrown into shock following an alleged attempt by two siblings to kill their elder brother over a property dispute.
The suspects, identified as Azra Waya and James Waya, reportedly attacked their elder brother, popularly known as Smart, at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday 10th March, 2026.
According to sources, the attackers allegedly ambushed Smart with dangerous weapons shortly after he alighted from a commercial motorcycle (Okada). The suspects were said to have earlier gone to his residence in search of him but failed to meet him at home before carrying out the attack.
During the assault, Smart reportedly sustained severe machete cuts to his head, hands and legs. He was said to have lost consciousness and was immediately rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention.
Family members revealed that the suspects are biological siblings of the victim. It was further alleged that Smart had previously sponsored one of the brothers through university. After graduation, the brother reportedly returned to work in Smart’s bakery business.
Sources also disclosed that there had been previous disagreements within the family over the bakery business owned by Smart. He reportedly asked them to step aside and allow him to take full control of the company but disagreed claiming they have been running the business while he focused on other ventures. Disagreement ended after a 2-year agreement was signed to own the company. They later left after establishing their own and ruined the Smart bakery company.
The latest dispute is believed to have escalated after Smart recently proposed selling his storey building, having allegedly noticed what he described as suspicious behaviour from his brothers regarding his property.
Sources further disclosed that some of Smart’s children currently live away from their father for personal reasons. Smart is presently receiving treatment at a private hospital, while the alleged attackers are yet to be arrested as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, family sources claim that this is not the first attempt on Smart’s life, alleging that a similar incident had occurred previously.
